Hampstead Community Centre & Community Market

is an independent charitable organisation run by an elected board of trustees.

Founded in 1976; the building started life as a coach house and then a garage after which it was renovated by a group of local people after it fell into disrepair.

The Centre aims to make the following overall and specific differences to the lives of residents living in the area:

Reduce isolation and promote stimulating activity for older people

Improve peoples access to safe, stimulating care for children aged 5-12

Improve peoples access to advice, information, support, counselling and advocacy

Improve peoples access to meeting space for voluntary and community groups

Promote & support healthy living, including the provision of a produce market for the locality

Increase creative play opportunities for children under 5 and support to their parents/carers

These differences have been achieved by the provision of activities and services that include:

Over 60s club & events & Christmas Day Lunch (inc. transport) for older people on their own

Under 5s: - 4 morning session parent/carer with toddler groups

After School Club Playcentre (5-12's) - Term-Time Monday - Friday

Playschemes (5-12's): Summer, Easter & half-terms in May/June, October & February

Outdoor Community Provisions market

Community Counselling Sessions

Community support groups, local leisure groups, language classes, art classes, and special events

Activities & services continue to function due to support from Camden Council & Charitable Trusts.

We are pleased to announce we have formed a strategic partnership with Age UK Camden’s day centre Henderson Court on Fitzjohn’s Avenue, called NW3 Together.

The aim is to improve the wellbeing of local older people, irrespective of their background, circumstance or identified community, by sharing existing local assets and resources to increase services and opportunities for older people in the NW3 area, especially for those with dementia .

Henderson Court is open 10am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday and provides a wealth of social and interest-based activities including yoga, crafts, singing, dancing and games for anyone aged over 60. It’s the only resource in the NW3 area providing specialist care for people living with complex needs, including dementia.

The centre offers a caring and stimulating environment. It’s where friendships and a real sense of community are enjoyed over a cup of tea or hot lunch, for people who otherwise would be isolated and alone.

As well as weekly activities Henderson Court also organises children’s choirs to visit from local schools, corporate volunteer days with business employees and neighbourhood groups to come in and have tea and cake with the members. The centre also organises events throughout the year, including a summer fair, tea dances and a panto at Christmas.

By working together, Hampstead Community Centre and Henderson Court aim to broaden their reach and create a more inclusive and supportive community in the area they both operate. NW3 Together  - Community. Space. Partnership
